This project involved the demolition and rebuilding of a beloved family home located on Cape Cod, with a focus on preserving the essence of the original structure while expanding it to meet modern needs. The homeowner’s deep emotional connection to the house, tied to childhood memories, was central to the design process. The goal was to retain key elements that held sentimental value while introducing contemporary comforts and a thoughtful expansion to enhance functionality and livability.

The existing footprint of the house was retained, ensuring the home maintained its connection to the land and its surrounding environment. The design aimed to seamlessly blend the old with the new, keeping the charm and character of the original structure intact, while introducing fresh, modern spaces that align with the homeowner's family.
Great care was taken to maintain a balance between the intimate, cozy feel of the original house and the increased space, avoiding a large-scale or out-of-place appearance within the neighborhood. The selection of materials was integral to the project, with an emphasis on both durability and timeless beauty. Traditional Cape Cod materials like cedar shingles and wood trim were incorporated to maintain the coastal aesthetic and anchor he house in its surroundings, creating a seamless connection between interior and exterior spaces.
